Basic Skincare: Skin Types ( Part III: Combination skin )

Combination Skin

Actually, I had Oily skin before. But after I focus on taking care my skin more for 2 years, my skin is Combination skin now (Oily T-zone and Normal cheeks). If you want to know how, plzz Read Part 1.



Basically, Combination skin occurs when your skin has more than one type. Typically, there are oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin area ) and Normal or Dry cheeks. If your combination is Normal + Oily, take care your skin as same as Oily skin. So what happen if your cheeks are dry, you must pay a lot time and money >_<

Because you cant use oily skincare products for all your face, it will harm and dry out your cheeks so bad. That's why you must prepare for different skincare products for your two skin types. So what can you do now ?
  1. Use different products for different parts on your skin. For example: Oil control cleanser (toner, exfoliate, serum,...) for your T-zone and super moisture products for your Cheeks.
  2. Start with a gentle cleanser (Oil-free, no irritating ingredients...).Highly Recommended: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
  3. Repairing Toner: with Antioxidant, cell-repaired ingredients can help a lot 
  4. Use sunscreen daily (SPF 30 above )
  5. Exfoliate your skin with BHA/AHA gel ( Scrub can hurt your skin )
Although these tips are just basic, I think it still helps you guys a lot.

Basic Skincare: Skin Types ( Part II: Normal and Dry skin)

Normal Skin

How can you know that you are Normal skin type??
  • Not too oily not too dry
  • No or just few imperfections
  • Barely visible pores
  • Radiant, Healthy skin

I'm alway jealous with who has Normal skin type because their skin is too perfect. >_< Caring it is very easy, Moist - Moist and Moist ^^ Drinking enough water is always helpful 

Cleanser: basic cleanser with some antioxidant and skin-repairing ingredients such as: Vitamin E, vitamin C, aloe vera,.... is the best choice.
Toner/Astringent: like Cleanser but stay away from alcohol. It cans dry out your skin.
Exfoliate: scrub (honey + brown sugar or olive oil + brown sugar) or AHA/BHA exfoliant ( less than 10%)
Serum: like Cleanser
Moisturizer: choose a cream/gel/lotion has SPF 15~30 for daytime and has antioxidant ingredients at nighttime.

Dry Skin

The reason why you have a dry skin is your is that the outer layers skin lose their ability to maintain moisture levels. Your skin will have these below problems :

  • Rough, scaly or flaking skin
  • Itching
  • Some cracks on the skin surface ( may bleed if severe )
  • Some areas is red

It sounds very dangerous, can we treat it ? Of course, we can treat it but you need to love your skin more. So it will help a lot to improve your skin condition.

  • Stop using soap ( bar form ): it dries out your skin 
  • Carefully with irritating ingredients: peppermint, alcohol, menthol, frangance...)
  • Microdermabrasion is highly recommended ( Do not use Scrub )
  • Hot shower, hot bath give us very good feeling in Winter but they are harmful for your dry skin. 
  • Do not use Petrolatum/Vaseline/Mineral oil

The next step is giving your skin a lot of love ^^~

  • Wear Sunscreen daily even in Winter
  • Moist your skin daily ( Toner, Serum, Moisturizer, Mask ) by products have plant/seed oil ( jojoba, almond, olive...). Hyarulonic acid, Collagen,....
  • Drink enough water ( although it will not decrease your dry condition, drink enough water is the basic step if you have healthy skin and body )

Basic Skincare: Skin Types ( Part I: Oily Skin )

We all know that how important finding out our skin type is. If you still dont know exactly your skin type, don't be afraid, i will share tips to help you recognize it. But let me tell you the benefits of knowing your skin.
  • You can choose suitable skincare product.
  • Your skin is always in good condition.
  • You know what you need or don't ( Do not trust to Advertisements on TV, what they want is your money/credit card...).

So, Let's get started. Basically, Skin Type is devide into 4 type: Dry, Normal, Combination, Oily. There will be some questions about "Sensitive skin", but in my opinion, Sensitive is just a problem that occurs on 4 skin types so Sensitive can be a skin type. Now, it's time to know more about your skin !

Oily skin:

Please ask yourself questions below. Congratulations if there are more than 2/4 "YES" answer.
  1. Do you feel your skin soft and comfortable (no tight feeling) after cleansing your face?
  2. After 1-2 hours after cleansing, do you see the shiniess on your face or feel greasy?
  3. Do you have pimples/acnes ? 
  4. Do you have blackhead on your nose?

Oily skin can make you feel unconfident because of pimples on your face, shining greasy face..But Oily skin still has its own benefits:

  • Your skin is more protected than another skin types.
  • Less wrinkles, less aging line.

I have oily skin before, so that's why i can share some tips to take care of it:

  • Cleanser, Toner, Serum, Mask, Spot treatment should have salicylic acide (0,5 - 2%)/ Sulfure/ Bezoyl Peroxide/ Clay/ ... in the product ingredients. Remember to check it on the label.
  • Don't treat too harsh because it will make everything worse. Please read the instruction carefully !!!
  • Drink enough water : I realize that drinking enough water (2-3 liters/day) can decrease the shining on your face.
  • Stay away from spicy/ fried/ fast food, they are very Yummy but Your skin don't love them ^^
  • Do not stay up late/ Sleep at least 6 hours/day
